FAW-Volkswagen has partnered with GALAXIS to develop a smart logistics system for its Changchun smart factory, building a highly automated and flexible supply chain ecosystem based on the Industry 4.0 framework.
The project features a high-bay warehouse design with a total building height of 24 meters and a clear height of 20.8 meters, ensuring seamless integration between the production workshop and the automated high-bay warehouse.

In the highly dynamic automotive manufacturing industry, intelligent logistics systems must support rapid production ramp-up, complex system integration, and flexible manufacturing requirements. Limited deployment timelines, high internal traffic, packaging inconsistencies, and the need for closed-loop supply chain data management create significant challenges for maintaining stable and efficient warehouse operations.
GALAXIS delivered an integrated smart logistics solution combining automated storage, pallet and bin handling, conveyor systems, industrial robots, and intelligent warehouse management. The system supports both pallet and bin storage within a high-bay warehouse environment, enabling seamless material receiving, storage, sorting, and delivery across the production workflow.
The solution was designed for high-capacity automotive intralogistics, with storage for 4,096 pallets and 14,840 bins. It supports pallet handling capacity of 220 boxes per hour, alongside bin warehouse throughput of 396 boxes per hour for inbound operations and 440 boxes per hour for outbound operations. Delivered within a challenging four-month timeline, the project improved storage efficiency, material flow stability, and production logistics flexibility.
